ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, held each year on August 31. It is an opportunity for communities to come together to both remember the lives that have been lost to this tragic crisis and raise awareness of resources for those impacted by substance use disorder. Here in Maryland, through the combined efforts of state agencies and local jurisdictions, the Hogan-Rutherford administration is fighting the heroin and opioid epidemic every day.
“Marylanders continue to be affected by the heroin and opioid crisis,” said Clay Stamp, executive director of the Opioid Operational Command Center. “Today is an opportunity for anyone who has been impacted by this epidemic to join together and remember the lives we’ve lost, those still struggling, and those in recovery.”
Stamp will attend Wicomico County’s “Shatter the Stigma of Addiction” event in Salisbury this evening.
